Lessons from the Lord

Remember this rug? Well, God is humbling me and reminding me that things are just things and that I need to remember that they won't do me a darn bit of good past this life.

After taking Lily to the groomer yesterday morning I was folding laundry on the couch and noticed a bunch of fibers on the rug - LOTS of fibers. Upon further inspection I found a nice little bald patch in the rug. Yep, Lily dug in. I don't even want to take a picture it's still irking me so much but like I said, God is reminding me that the rug is just stuff and that having a nice rug isn't going to get me in to Heaven. I also can't help but think this is His way of preparing me for what I'm sure will be many broken things because of little hands in the future.

(I am planning on getting some good old Alene's to help put the fibers back in the rug so it isn't quite so bare in that area - should be interesting...)

Thankful Thursdays

I'm thankful for:
  • Spring being just around the corner.
  • Fun, silly times with Mike laughing at absolutely nothing.
  • New things for family and friends.
  • The laughter that children can bring.
  • Mike being an awesome guy and finishing our taxes (yahoo!)

A Whole Lot of Random

To go along with the title, everything in this post is also in random order. :-)

I finally remade my wreath for early Spring and took all of the Christmas-y stuff off it. My Mom always used the same grapevine wreath and redecorated it based on the season or holiday and now I do the same thing - so fun! I found green toile ribbon for 80 cents (!) at Michaels and I had the rest of the stuff (flowers that have been used on two other wreaths, brown ribbon, green ribbon that our wedding gifts were wrapped in, and raffia bag filling that I tucked in around everything). I couldn't get a good picture of it so this will have to do.

The Michael's near my work is moving to a new location and is having a big clearance sale so they don't have to move stuff. I was amazed at how empty the store already was but found some great deals - 70% off the lowest ticket price!

I got 6 rolls of ribbon, 4 sheets of scrapbook paper, yellow paint for the sunflower pillow I'm planning on making soon, Christmas/snowflake stamps, and metallic pens for $10!!!! I only had 20 minutes to look around but I think I'm going to go back again before the end of the week to see if I missed anything. Oh, how I enjoy a good deal! :-)

Last week I found flowers for our mantel (it needed some "green") at a different Michael's sale. Now I just need to find a face that is heavy enough to hold them but until then, they look pretty good just laying there.

I used to curl my hair with hot rollers all the time in high school and I got new hot rollers a few weekends ago. I'm having so much with my new curly hair even though my hair is fairly curly on it's own, this is a nice little change of pace.

I realized I never posted pictures of our new bed! Here is our "old" bed in the guest room in the basement - it looks great!
And here is our new bed! I'm working on the headboard - I can't figure out what I want to do but I'll figure it out eventually.
That's it! Hopefully my next post will have a little more order...

Thankful Thursdays

I'm thankful for:
  • great coworkers that just make work fun
  • that tomorrow is Friday (because said coworkers from above and I have had a long, but fun, week learning LOTS of new things and we're pooped)
  • that I finally ordered fabric for our bed skirt
  • for randomly being reminded of good times with wonderful people listening to the following two songs while studying in Italy:

Thank You!

My friend, Renee, gave me the "Beautiful Blogger" award - thank you!

So, per the rules of the award, I need to...

1. Thank the person who gave me the award. (Done - but let's do it one more time just because she rocks. Thanks, Renee!)

2. Copy and paste the award in my blog. (Done)

3. Share seven things about me (see below)

4. Pass on the award to 10 other people whose blog you have just discovered and think is great. (in no particular order - see below, again)

7 Things About Me:
  • I'm copying Renee on the first one. I'm tall - 6' and a little tall. The day Gap came out with their "Tall" pant sizes was a beautiful day because I could enjoy wearing heels with jeans and not look like I was expecting a flood. When it gets down to it though, I really like being tall.
  • I VERY VERY rarely buy something that isn't on sale. The one exception would be groceries but I'm working on that one. My favorite "finds" are the clothes, decor, etc. that I got on sale and for huge discounts.
  • My husband, Mike, and I are getting bicycles soon. I'm excited.
  • I enjoy listening to jazz music. Some of my favorites, at varying levels of "jazz", are: Harry Connick Jr., Erin Bode, and Ella Fitzgerald.
  • I don't like cantaloupe - or any kind of melon for that matter.
  • I'm almost caught up on my scrapbooking. I'm trying to finish one from 2004 (yep....) and the next one is our NYC trip in 2008
  • I stink at stuff like this.
Now, I nominate... (yes, I'm cheating and only doing four)

I don't actually know the last three girls but really enjoy their blogs. Bev and I are "old" college buddies and she's just great. :-)

  • the flowers he brought me for an early V-Day gift
  • that my parents are coming to visit this weekend
  • warmer weather within the 7-day forecast :-)

That was it?

After weeks of hearing much debate in regard to THE Tim Tebow commercial that would air during the Super Bowl, I was anxious to see it and at the end I was left thinking, "That was it?"

Now, to explain my feelings. I do NOT, nor will I ever, think abortion is acceptable. I was beyond thrilled that CBS chose to air the commercial and my thoughts of "that was it?" were not due to the fact that the message didn't throw the "abortion is wrong" thing in your face but rather, "That was awesome! Why in the world were people so up in arms about that commercial?"

Yes, yes, I know... people who are pro-life see it as a major attack on their beliefs but seriously - I do not think that Focus on the Family could have presented the message in a more appropriate way. Too often Christians are seen as being too abrupt in telling people when they are in the wrong and I think Focus did a good job at piquing people's interest to share a much bigger message.

I'm sure many people could go round and round with me on this topic. I'm know I didn't accurately explain the entirety of my thoughts and feelings on the commercial and abortion in this short little post but I had to get the gist out there while the commercial was still fresh on everyone's minds.

In short - "that was it" was really SO much more.

Project List Update

Here's an update on my projects. A little slow going but some of them aren't "must do" things but the ones that are "must do" are getting done slowly but surely!
  • refinish Poppop's chair
  • make sunflower pillow (like this one) for the living room couch. My artistic painting skills aren't that great so we'll see how that turns out.
  • make a cake stand like this one - such a fun and brilliant idea and yay for saving $$!
  • refinish this table
  • paint the basement room floor
  • finish a scrap book for my my Mom's and my two week trip to Paris/England/Ireland in 2004 (yep, that far behind...)
  • finish scrap booking our road trip from the summer (DONE)
  • make a "snuggie" for Mike (will be done so - I'm going to buy a real Snuggie because it's less than half the price of buying the fabric to make one)
  • make a bath robe for Mike
  • make a sign with our last name & "Est. 2007" on it to hang in our little entry. I've been meaning to order one but, due to my indecisiveness, can't figure out exactly what I want it to look like so I'm doing it myself. That way if I don't like it, I have only myself to blame. :-) (DONE - see the sign here)
  • make a new headboard for the KING SIZE mattress we bought yesterday
  • make a bedskirt for same said bed
  • make a curtain for our bathroom window (don't worry, the window is actually a bunch of glass tiles but it needs something to soften it up a little)

Happy 90th, Grandad!

Today my Grandad turned 90. We celebrated with homemade chicken noodle soup with mashed potatoes, a salad and, of course, cake!
Happy Birthday, Grandad! I love you!

Thankful Thursdays

I'm thankful for:
  • being done with my Green Belt project at work (WAHOO!)
  • knowing my parents aren't coming this weekend. They were coming but the weather is supposed to be bad so they're coming next weekend and can stay a night longer.
  • nights at home watching hockey with Mike (even when I have no clue what's going on) :-)
  • blessings that friends are receiving and knowing that God had them in His plans all along but waited until the time was right.
