Thankful Thursdays

This week I'm thankful for:
  • the road next to our house being close to done. Yep, I said that a few months ago but jumped the gun by a long shot. They're FINALLY putting the top layer of asphalt on so the road and lip of the curb are even. YAY!
  • My parents are coming to visit this weekend.
  • I get to start putting my Christmas decorations up on Sunday. Yes, I decorate that early. :-)
  • The fact that 26 years ago today, my wonderful husband was born. Happy Birthday, Mike! Love you!

Working on It

There are days I think I talk too much. I've been reminded of that fact or feeling (whether it actually be true, or just in my head) a few times lately and I'm trying to remind myself to just be quiet.

My prayer is that God make my words His and that I am intentional in what I say. If it's at work, or at the grocery store, I need to listen more and talk less.

I'm working on it.

Weekend Highlights

Highlight #1

I found eggnog at the grocery store which means I can start enjoying eggnog lattes!

Highlight #2

A wonderful nap this afternoon.

Highlight #3

Organizing "my part" of the storage room so that next weekend, I can start decking the halls. :-)

Highlight #4

Getting our new recycling bin on Friday. Yep, get excited people. We switched trash companies so we could have a recycling program. The coolest part is that we get rewards for recycling. They weigh our bin each time they pick it up and we get points based on the weight. From there, we can redeem our points for coupons and gift cards. YEAH!!!

Highlight #5

Spending time with Mike. Even if Paul Blart: Mall Cop ended up being FAR less funny than we anticipated. To the point we shut it off about half way through.

Hope ya'll had a great weekend!

Thankful Thursdays

I'm thankful for:
  • my parents coming to town next weekend.
  • the rain cooling the weather off again.
  • a wonderful husband who is SO willing to help my family with their computers. He's building a new one for Jordan! :-)
  • our cat, Pepper, and dog, Lily. They are so fun to watch and play with and just make us laugh.
  • finding awesome deals on things that would have cost us a lot more moola if we bought it new.

Whoops

So, I just realized that about a dozen of my last posts were not allowing comments. Sorry about that!

I started using Disqus around the time it looks like the "No Comment" option started and I'm sure I messed it up but it should be fixed now... :-)

Hope ya'll had a good weekend!

Prayer Request for a Friend

Hey guys, I have a huge prayer request. On Friday, a dear friend of mine learned that she has a brain aneurysm. This news is hard to swallow in and of itself but is made that much scarier as she is due with a precious baby girl in mid-December.

Will you all please say a special prayer for my friend, her baby girl, her family and the Doctors? THANK YOU!!!!

Dear Heavenly Father, Please place your healing hands on my friend and her baby girl. Please wrap your arms around her family and give them all peace and be with the Drs. and guide them in everything they do. Amen.

Another project!

Our office is having a surplus sale next weekend but I got a sneak peak today while I helped clean some of the furniture to get it ready to sell and came home with this. :-) It looks like a basic table that opens up but...

it's lined with paper that has Chinese (?) writing all over it...

AND, the box and legs separate!

it's missing a little piece of the finish on one of the front legs but I hope I can figure out a way to cut a new little piece to fit in the space.

I think I'm going to paint it white and if I can figure out how, pop the metal finishing pieces off and paint them silver. So now I have this and the chair to work on. I need to get busy!

Thankful Thursdays

I'm thankful for:
  • a slower week. Last week was so much fun but tiring. I like my quiet evenings at home with Mike.
  • tomorrow, tomorrow, the sun'll come out tomorrow! (I hope) :-)
  • the little things in life
  • hugs from sweet kiddos at AWANA

Quote of the Day

Overheard when walking by two teen boys today:

Boy 1 to Boy 2, "You DO! You like Courtney's friend!"

I don't know these boys, or who Courtney is, but it was hilarious.

On a side note, there's a little girl in my AWANA class who is anxiously waiting to find out if her family will be welcoming a new baby girl or boy. She desperately wants it to be a girl since she already has an older and younger brother. I remember how badly I wanted a sister when I was little so if you think of it, say a little prayer that she gets what her heart truly desires. (but more importantly, that it's a healthy, happy baby!) :-)

Just what I needed to hear

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a wound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.

God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens
and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat.

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever.
The laws of the Lord are true; each one si fair.
They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.
They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
Keep your servant from deliverate sins!
Don't let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to YOU, O LORD, my ROCK and my REDEEMER.

-Psalm 19

This and That

I've been in a blogging funk the last few weeks. Here's a little of what's been running through my mind:

  • I don't like that Obama won the Nobel Prize. I think it belittles the honor because he hasn't actually done anything.
  • I saw an article discussing how this clip from Saturday Night Live is one of the best ways to describe how Obama's term is going so far. The article basically said that you know he's not doing a good job when groups who normally support him are turning on him.
  • Those last two posts probably make it pretty clear that I'm not an Obama fan. Regardless, he is our President and I am praying for him and the decisions he makes because I want MY country, and the country both of my granfathers fought so hard for, to remain the land of the FREE.
  • I hate confrontation but, for some reason, have really wanted to "run my mouth" a lot lately. (I'm mostly talk but sometimes I actually get brave and really let my frustration be heard) I'm praying that I can do so appropriately - and I hope that makes some kind of sense.
  • I'm praying that the economy turns around soon. I'm tired of the roller coaster ride that 2009 has been but counting ALL of the blessings Mike and I have had bestowed upon us through this crazy time.
  • I wish I could fix everything for everyone. I have so many friends going through things that make me hurt so much for them. I know God has a plan and His plan is perfect but I really wish I understood it all a little better right now.
  • It smelled like Texas when I took my dog outside a few days ago. Texas has three distinct smells for me: bacon, manure and another smell that I can't really describe other than it puts me at peace and makes me think of all the times I'd stand on the storm shelter at my Poppop's and just breathe in the smell.
I feel like I'm being such a downer but somehow I feel better so thanks for reading. :-)

Go Team!

Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

Kelly asked us to share our favorite teams this week and while I don't tailgate, I do have traditions when it comes to my teams.

Baseball is all about the St. Louis Cardinals. I am my Dad's "baseball buddy" and we have going to Busch down to an art. Now, if only they were winning the playoff series right now but I am far from a fair-weather fan.

The Kansas Jayhawks are where it's at for basketball. They won the National Championship the first year Mike and I were married - I think Mike thought I was officially insane watching me watch that game.

I don't watch too much football but grew up a Cowboy fan. Thanksgiving dinner revolved around the game every year.

Through marriage, I have joined hockey fans and am now a Canucks fan.

So that's it! GO CARDS, ROCK CHALK, Let's go Boys and Go Canucks! :-)

Thankful Thursdays

This week I'm thankful for:
  • knowing that I serve a Lord who has a masterful plan. I many not understand it, or like waiting for it, but it is His and it is perfect.
  • friends. Dinner with them, helping them, it makes me smile no matter what.
  • Mike. My husband is wonderful.
Have a wonderful Thursday!

Busy, Busy, Busy

We're ready for a night at home together for 'The Office' wedding tomorrow. :-)

A Slightly Delayed Thankful THursday

Ooops. I didn't do so well this week. :-) Without further adieu:

  • I'm thankful for seeing dear friends in unexpected places.
  • I'm thankful for relaxing weekends at home with my husband.
  • I'm thankful for clean sheets and towels - there's something so comforting about them. :-)
  • there's lots more but right now, I'm going to take advantage of something else I'm thankful for - Saturday afternoon baseball and a nap!
